Summer might bring iced tea and trips to the beach but it also brings the exceptionally warm nights that just won’t let you sleep cool and get a good night sleep.

While the heat can be ignored during the day, at night when everyone is craving for their perfect REM sleep, it just gets impossible to ignore.

The obvious solution to this heatwave involves air-conditioning, but what if that is not an option?

  1. Hit the Shower

Hitting the showers before sleeping is the most convenient way to bring down your body temperature. Washing away all the work and sweat of the day just before bed can help you relax and get that good sleep you have been looking forward to. Even if you just rinse off with cold water, it will make you feel clean and comfortable which is a blessing in summers.

Just like your clothes, you need to be vigilant about the sheets you sleep in. Dark colored mixed fabric sheets might look pretty but trust me you are going to end up tossing and turning in your bed all night long due to the heat that they emit. It is best to choose light colored cotton sheets and breathable pillows in summer so you don’t sleep hot.

Another major component that traps in a lot of heat is your mattress. A thick memory foam will trap in heat over night and make you feel as if you are sleeping in a oven. And it gets worse if you regularly experience hot flashes and night sweats. It is best to opt for a mattress that stays cool and helps to relieve night sweats. A temperature regulating mattress pad may also be of help.

  1. The Organic Fabrics

The clothes that you wear majorly impact your overall temperature. Light, flimsy and loose cotton clothes are ideal for summer nights as they let the air pass through it. In fact, if you switch to organic cotton clothing you will actually feel as if you are not wearing anything because it is just so light to carry! Avoid wearing fitted or thick material nightwear as these body-hugging stuff will only make you uncomfortable during the night.

  1. Ice Packs for Everyone

Ice packs are a lifesaver, especially when you get hurt. But what most of us don’t know is that the same ice packs can instantly cool you down as well.

Just like we cover them up in winters, you can apply ice packs on them in summer nights. This will instantly give you that. If a ice pack seems intense,  put a wet cloth on these regions. Before you know it, you will be cozy and comfortable in the most brutal of heat.

  1. Turn off the Devices

This self-explanatory hint will not only maintain a good temperature but also save a lot of bucks on the electricity bill. From light bulbs to hair dryers and even television, everything emits heat. Therefore switching to low-voltage lights and using less appliances can help you to maintain a cooler temperature. So do yourself a favor, unplug and disconnect as many devices as you can and witness the immediate temperature drop yourself.

While nobody enjoys the night sweats you can always take care and help yourself while the peak of summer is here. Happy summer-sleeping!
