The 2017 Golden Foodie Awards was an incredible sold out Red Carpet Event at Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa.
Orange County’s culinary elite gathered on Sunday, September 24, 2017 to celebrate the best of the best. And boy was it a celebration!
Ketel One Vodka and Roca Patron Cocktails were amongst the lovely cocktail choices enjoyed by guests such as Simon Majumdar, Food Network Star Aarti Sequeira, Top Chef All-Star Marcel Vigneron, Master Sommelier Michael Jordan and so much more. With food options form Angelina’s Pizzeria, Filomena’s, Pascal & Baja Shellfish Farms, Mozambique, Sol Agave, Pizzeria Ortica, Mix Mix Kitchen & Bar, Waterman’s, Hook & Spear, Red O, Legado Bar + Kitchen, House of Blues, Skyloft, Urbana, Puesto, Taco Rosa and Melissa’s Produce.
With food options from Angelina’s Pizzeria, Filomena’s, Pascal & Baja Shellfish Farms, Mozambique, Sol Agave, and Pizzeria Ortica no one left hungry. But for good measure, there was, of course, more. Other foodie options came from Mix Mix Kitchen & Bar, Waterman’s, Hook & Spear, Red O, Legado Bar + Kitchen, House of Blues, Skyloft, Urbana, Puesto, Taco Rosa and Melissa’s Produce.
Once seated in the ballroom there were more culinary delights and cocktails to enjoy as guests, top chefs and foodie icons enjoyed edible art, videos and the presentation of the nominees and winners.
2017 Bartender of the Year was Jose Zepeda of Hopscotch.
Paul Joseph Piane of Orange Hill Restaurant and Tanner Johnson of Watertable were the runner-ups.
The 2017 Best Cocktails in Orange County came from The Farmhouse at Roger’s Gardens.
Vine Restaurant & Bar and Hopscotch were the runner-ups.
The Ranch Restaurant was awarded Best Bar Program.
The Blind Rabbit and Vine Restaurant & Bar were the runner-ups in this category.
Best Lunch Spot in Orange County was awarded to Sgt. Pepperonis.
The Deck and Farmhouse at Rogers Gardens were runner-ups.
Best Brunch in Orange County was awarded to Old Vine Cafe.
Bosscat and Taco Rosa were runner-ups in this category.
The 2017 Best New Restaurant was Mix Mix.
Taco Brat and Recess Room were the runner-ups.
Rising Star Chef of 2017 was awarded to Chef Manny Velasco of Sol Agave.
The runner-up in this category included Chef Joel Harrington of Lido Bottle Works and Chef JT Walker of Pacific Hideaway.
The Fork Report’s Neil Saavedra was our 2017 Favorite Orange County Food Influencer.
Connie Bang-Co Aboubakare of OC Comestibles and Sondra Barker of Pretty Fit Foodie were runner-ups in this category.
Best Wine Program went to The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar.
Napa Rose and The Ranch Restaurant were the runner-ups.
Best Beer Program was awarded to TAPS Fishhouse and Brewery.
Our runner-ups in this category were Hopscotch and Skyloft.
Bruno Serrato of Anaheim White House was recognized with the most Outstanding Community Service.
Dave Hanna of Hanna’s Prime Steak and Pascal Olhats of Pascal’s certainly did their part too.

The 2017 Restaurateur of the Year was Alicia Whitney of SeaSalt & SeaLegs, Huntington Beach.
Teresa Razo of Villa Roma, Laguna Hills and Blake Mellgren of Craft House, Dana Point came in strong as runner-ups.
2017 Best Dessert Menu in Orange County is offered by Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen.
Mixed Bakery and Anqi also have great choices for your sweet tooth.
Enjoy the 2017 Golden Foodie Best Entree in Orange County is the Cowboy Ribeye which can be enjoyed at The Ranch Restaurant.
Bosscat Burger at Bosscat Kitchen+Libations and Korean Fried Chicken at Krave Asian Fusion Restaurant are our runner-ups.
2017 Best Service Award was awarded to Selanne Steak Tavern.
The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar and Villa Roma also had outstanding service.
2017 Golden Foodie Pastry Chef of the Year is Elyssa Fournier,
David Rossi and Jorge Sotelo certainly bring some gorgeous cake to the table, as well.
2017 Golden Foodie Chef of the Year is Chef Rich Mead.
Chef Ross Pangilinan and Chef Michael Rossi were also in the running.
Lifetime Achievement Awards goes to Chef Alan Greeley.
